All people with noble hearts and consideration for the helpless and unfortunate orphans in Bulgaria!
Dear people,
We would like to tell you about how one monk’s dream to build a home for orphans and to those in need became a reality with God’s help and how we can all help in continuing this good deed.
The “St. Nicholas” orphanage was built in 1988 in “St. Trinity” church’s front yard in the Novi Han village, municipality Elin Pelin. The construction began with 480 leva and up to this date the orphanage is being supported by citizens’ donations. The government does not care about the orphanage or the orphans. As of now there are 120 orphans that live in it, 74 of which are children (from babies to 18 years of age).
For his noble deed, St. Ivan (monk Joan) receives several awards. In 2004, he was nominated for a “Bulgarian of the Year”, an award given to him by the President of Bulgaria. In 2005, he was awarded with the “Worthy Bulgarian of the Year” award given to him by the prime-minister of Bulgaria . He also has other awards from different foundations.
Let us recognize the noble mission of St. Ivan who created and took care of this orphanage. Let us, like the Bulgarians in Bulgaria, the Bulgarians who are spread all over the world help and bless the humanity and devotion of this Godly man.
Let us open our hearts for those in need and help as much as we can. For that reason there are three boxes placed in the three Bulgarian cultural centers where anyone can donate something. They are located on the following addresses:
First Bulgarian Cultural Center

The donations will be directly transferred in the orphanage’s account. The Bulgarian community will be additionally notified for the success of this humane action. For more information you can go to the website: http://www.svetinikolai.org
