The MTV Video Music Awards 2011, on August 28, at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles was certainly one of the year’s most electrifying events on the industry calender, with show-stopping performances from Jay-Z & Kanye, Beyonce, Adele, Chris Brown, among others: Jack Black, Drake, Will Ferrell, Selena Gomez, Kevin Hart, Jonah Hill, Joe Jonas, Victoria Justice, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Lautner, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Nicki Minaj, Odd Future Wolf Gang K*ll Them All, Seth Rogen, Rick Ross, Zoe Saldana and J. B. Smoove. Live performace by Adele, ony Bennett (tribute to Amy Winehouse), , Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Pitbull (featuring Ne-Yo and Nayer) and Young the Giant.
Chart titan Katy Perry may have led the race with a whopping 10 nominations, but did she take home the most moonmen?
Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Adele all won multiple Moon Men at the MTV 2011 Video Music Awards.
Other winners included Britney Spears (who also took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award), Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Foo Fighters, and Tyler, The Creator.
Russell Brand’s tribute to Amy Winhouse struck just the right mix of humor, heart, sadness, and pop grandiosity, and Bruno Mars’performance also did the late singer justice. The sight of Winehouse recording “Body and Soul” with Tony Bennett, from a session in March of this year, was a moving reminder of the troubled star’s incredible talent.
