The 54th Annual Grammy Awards take place tonight February 12 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Kanye West led the field at the 2012 Grammys with seven nominations, though he was not nominated for Best Album. Adele was nominated for six awards, including Best Album, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Adele and Mars also will compete for record of the year honors with „Rolling in the Deep“ and „Grenade,“ respectively. Also nominated in that category were Bon Iver („Holocene“), Mumford & Sons („The Cave“) and Katy Perry („Firework“).
The Grammys are a night to celebrate musical excellence — something Houston emodied and defined at her highest heights. Among the inevitable tributes tonight, the Grammys have officially announced a perfomance from Jennifer Hudson honoring Houston.Heralded as one of the best female vocalists of all time, Houston was staging another return to the spotlight with a starring role in the big-screen remake of „Sparkle“ and a potential seat on „The X Factor“ judges’ panel. Sony TriStar will release „Sparkle,“ which includes two of her final recorded tracks, on Aug. 17.
The first Grammy of the prime-time show went to Adele for her song “Someone Like You“. She won all six of her nominations at the 2012 Grammy Awards, topping the ceremony with Album of the Year for „21“ and taking home both Song and Record of the Year for „Rolling in the Deep.
