The President’s Gallery at Harold Washington College, 30 E. Lake Street, presents The Language of Roses, a group exhibition consisting of pieces from Chicago-based Bulgarian artists. The exhibition is comprised of paintings and mixed media sculptural works that vary from figuration to abstraction and represent the broad range of styles among the artists.
All of the artists in the show are part of the organization Bulgarian Artists Abroad, which has a mission to create a coalition of artists originally from Bulgaria but now living in other locations, in an effort to promote the culture of their home country. Just as roses are distilled into essential oil as a major export of Bulgaria, these artists create community to keep the essence of their heritage activated.
The President’s Gallery is in room 1105 at Harold Washington College, 30 E. Lake Street. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. The exhibition opens June 4, 2012 and runs through August 3, 2012.
