The Elder Son a Russian comedy cleverly tells of love and loneliness, mutual understanding and vulnerability, and explores the desperate need for every person to belong. A case of stolen identity and a confluence of circumstances leads to a hilarious misunderstanding, changed lives and ultimately true love.
About the Playwright
Alexander Valentinovich Vampilov (Russian: Александр Валентинович Вампилов) (August 19, 1937 – August 17, 1972) was a critically successful and popular Russian Playwright, and also an accomplished singer and guitarist. The Elder Son was first performed in 1969 and became a national success two years later. In addition, many of his plays have been filmed or televised in Russia, including a film version of The Elder Son released in 1976. The American version of the film was released in 2006. Five of Alexander Valentinovich Vampilov full-length plays have been translated into English which include: Farewell in June, House Overlooking the Field, Duck Hunting, Last Summer in Chulimsk and The Elder Son. Duck Hunting has been performed in London and the Arena Stage in Washington D.C.
