Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Serbia are the only teams who won in all four rounds in the open section of the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromso. Today pairings of R5: Azerbaijan-Serbia, Russia-Bulgaria, Armenia-Norway, China-Netherlands, Ukraine-Uzbekistan, Israel-Cuba.
The battles rage on in Norway with some incredible matches.
In terms of number of moves, the quickest mate possible in chess is known as Fool’s mate (1.g4 e5 2.f3?? Qh4# and variants thereof). This has been known to occur in amateur play.
In Tromso the game between Rhoda Masiyazi (Zimbabwe) vs. Akua Kosife Esse (Togo) finished after only 3 moves: 1.e4 f6 2.d4 g5 3.Qh5#.
As much as the player from Togo would like to visit the city of Tromso, it seems rather disrespectful to come to the Olympiad and „play“ such a game.
Мaybe this is the shortest game ever in the history of chess (with a checkmate)!
