The world is getting smaller day by day as a result of globalization: not smaller in size, but in the way people understand and interact with others that speak different languages and come from different cultures. People traveling to new countries has become so common that one third of the earth’s population has journeyed to a country other than the one they were born. With this said, it becomes very important for people to empathize and appreciate each other’s cultures and languages. This can be done primarily by knowing the language, which provides entry to the culture. The benefits of learning a foreign language are numerous. With more and more resources to learn a foreign language becoming available, such as online courses, learning a foreign language is possible for anyone willing to take on the task. All that is required is some time, probably an hour or so every week to gain access to new cultures and change the way you see the world. In addition to giving insight into other cultures, learning a foreign language has other benefits, including:
• Enhanced cognitive skills and perceptions • Enhanced memory and ability to multitask
• Improved decision making capabilities
