DIAMOND DAYS is a feature-length narrative film about a lonely Bulgarian playwright named Krasimira and her first visit to Kentucky to see the English-language premiere of her latest play. In the bluegrass state she takes a tour of a world-famous horse farm and meets a restless young woman who dreams of leaving Kentucky for good. The lead actor of Krasimira’s autobiographical play is a recently divorced actor attempting to impress his distant 13 year-old daughter by showing her the „glamour“ of a regional theater production. In four whirlwind days, Krasimira learns the meaning of „southern hospitality“ and makes friends amongst an alien culture.
A love letter to the state of Kentucky, DIAMOND DAYS explores the hidden diversity and poetry of the Commonwealth. The production will film all over Central Kentucky during the months of July and August, capturing our state’s natural beauty, in both its landscape and its citizens as seen through the open eyes of a tourist.
Part documentary, but mostly fiction, the production is a true collaborative effort between writer/director Thom Southerland, poet/actress Katerina Stoykova-Klemer, actress/writer Sami Allison and writer/actor Leif Rigney. The film will explore the nature of father/daughter relationships as seen through many lenses.
A local crew of talented filmmakers will assist us this summer to produce something truly original and hopefully meaningful for all of us.
